Taylah on moving back to her hometown
How moving back to her hometown helped her figure out her future
Growing up in regional Australia
I was born in the remote town of Kununurra in Western Australia. I moved to Eyre Peninsula when I was 10. After graduating high school in Cleve, I moved to Port Lincoln in South Australia with my partner at the time. I stayed in South Australia for about four months then after I graduated from High School I decided to move back to Kununurra.
Kununurra is known for its landscapes, it thrives on tourism. I am currently working full-time to make some money. I work as a receptionist at the caravan park and I also am the manager of the local café.
Moving forward I would like to spend some time in a city. Port Lincoln is the biggest place I’ve ever lived in and even that is really small.
How moving back home provided clarity
I went from knowing exactly what I thought I wanted to do after school, then I moved back home and my life completely pivoted, but for the better. Moving back home allowed me to get some breathing space and made me realise you don’t have to have everything figured out right after you leave school. As well as moving to a city at some point, I also want to do some travelling up the east coast.
Rural is how I grew up. It will always have a special place in my heart. I can definitely see myself moving back to a rural place when I grow up.
My advice to young people
It’s okay not to know what you’re going to do with your life after school. Sometimes you have to go back home to take the time to figure out what it is you really want to do.
